I have a problem with over eating

You would think at 48 I would have mastered the instructions most children hear of, "Don't eat to much dear", but those were words I never heard.  Eating and feeding people was how we spent family time and showed our love.  Chocolate and sweet stuff was the ultimate demonstration of the enormous amount of undying love you possessed.  Candy bars were gold bricks of love. Yet today as enormous as I am I know I have a problem with over eating and associating food with love.

As an abused child I tended to shy away with people and to fill my own empty heart I ate to comfort and provide the love I longed for.  Despite all the love I am offered today I still find it hard to connect but I know where it comes from and I work on it.  Building positive relationships was first brought to my attention through lifeskills411.org where Bay Area CEO Michael E. Parker talked about what the earmarks of a positive relationship were.  To my surprise I was my own negative relationship.

Thankfully Mr. Parker continued his work for adults in the You Are a CEO movement and I was able to connect the dots and see how my personal character defects impacted my working relationships. Communication is essential in every relationship and when you don't talk about what is going on in your head, some people (like me) over eat to stuff the feelings they have. Today by God's grace I am aware of this and have certain tools to help me work on it.

As I recognize the amount of food that is required for my body's health I can realize that over eating is an act of unloving myself. As an adult I can only love others as I love and care for myself.  When I eat too much and have too much body fat I hurt myself and those who love and care about my health.

There are times I want to blame my childhood, my parents or the worlds for my issues with food and rightly so. LOL.  There is an epidemic regarding weight issues and the habits Americans have however I have been blessed with the knowledge I need and faith to carry that out. Pray for me and all those who struggle with what they eat. Its not an easy battle but it can be won a day at a time. If Oprah Winfrey can struggle with weight issues why not me? It does not mean I am a bad person or unworthy of love and friends.  It simply means I have an issue with food God can and will fix if I am willing to take the right actions.  

After relapsing on my diet and gaining a ton I have restored my self and my life to sanity and have lost 12 lbs. Its a modest yet monumental goal.  I celebrate the gift of willingness God has granted me to strive and achieve success.

When you can't stop over eating - Food Addiction

I am always connecting information to food addiction.  I have struggled all of my life with my weight and over eating.  People say its easy just don't eat but I can't stop. Or don't stop.  I lose weight, gain weight.  I stop eating then start eating. I love food and sweets.

Today I was reading about how to use critical thinking to solve problems and how to use creative problem solving to deal with issues.  I thought about truthfully why I over eat and get FAT.  I grew up eating a rich high carb diet.  Breakfast was sugar cereal, snack at 10 am was bread and fudgecicles, lunch was pizza and candy and after school snacks were candy, cookies, and lots of Hostess treats. Dinner was normally some pasta like spagetti or taco's.  We ate cheap, fast or free foods. We were poor and I never felt like I got enough.  When food came in the house we tore it up.  Food was always on our minds. When we had money we celebrated with food.  When we had a problem food consoled us. Food was the center of my life. When I was able to buy my own food I did and never held back.

I bought as much of what ever and it was been a problem my entire life.  Food gave me great pleasure and comfort.  It made me feel safe and ok.  It was my friend or so I thought until I looked in the mirror and saw what food has done to me again.  I am FAT.  Its really not food's fault but my own desires for it that I find a challenge to control.  This mental obsession is what many call Food Addiction.

So how can I break the cycle?  How can I solve the problem.  Food Addicts Anonymous worked but its a huge pain to go to 3 meetings, call a sponsor and avoid all the eating pleasure I have long enjoyed however my health is getting worse and my self esteem is going down the drain.  I am huge and I hate it. But I can't stop.  I don't want to.  But I want to.  Its like I expect my desire or will to change with out my effort and resisting.

Today I had a heartfelt talk with me and came to the realization I eat when I feel any emotion or no emotion.  I am on auto piolet.  I seek food that tastes good and it is my desire. More than anything else I desire to eat something good and feel good.  This is the crazy thing.  I like the food but I hate the result of the eating.  Big clothes, a distorted face and body and feeling sluggish and unappealing. Its hard to look at myself like this.

Critical thinking will help you look at your problem and find ways to solve it.  Creative problem solving will help you find other ways when what you have been trying does not work.  Once you start to have success you will achieve a new flow.  "Flow is the intrinsic reward for pursuing a challenging goal. Regardless of the activity, if innovators maintain an optimal match between the challenge of the problem and their own skills, they will experience flow" (Dacey 1998).

Creative people are broken down into four basic types of innovators: the Maker, the Master, the Introspector, and the Influencer. The “Master” exemplifies the existing domain of knowledge (by doing excellent work within the parameters of that domain), whereas the “Maker” creates new domains. Makers bring forth what has heretofore been unexamined or unrealized. Sigmund Freud represents an example of a Maker.  Makers' strengths are as problem finders and system builders. Makers instinctively know where to find what they are looking for and how to construct a new conceptual structure for transforming the domain. By contrast, Masters (for example, Wolfgang Mozart or Henry Ford) focus on the existing domain. Masters take the domain's existing problems and solve them.

What helped me with this reading was I can see that I must become a Maker of my new body.  Take the time and make the effort to construct myself they way I so desire and stop listening to this ridiclous mind and its unending desires.  This is the curse of man, to be led by his or her desires and disregard what is plain simple common sense.  When you eat too much and exercise to little your going to get FAT.  Hello.  You can make a million excuses, blame it on what ever you want but bottom line its simple math. Calories in and calories out.

We must learn to use our intellect and solve our life's problems. Leverage your intellectual strength.  We're smart.  We know this.  Right?

Today went great.

No binge eating.  I did wonderful. Ah... Yippee. 

Breakfast was not FA but 3 small eggs, about 3 oz sausage (lean) 2 slices of toast. 

I had a plum and a nectarine.

I ate 2 black bean tofu patties, some grean beans and a salad.

For dessert I had a popcicle 45 calories and a few dark chocolate chips.

I am not feeling guilty or over eating.

Ah relief

If you are having trouble controlling what you eat then you may have a serious disease, one that can even take your life.  Food addiction has been classified as a disease and treated by the medical community.  Food addiction is not just a trick of the mind but proven to be as addictive as a drug.  Studies showed that a person addicted to sugar has the same brain scan or worse than a heroin addict with deep pits in the brain that impacted function, reaction and reasoning abilities.

Are people with this condition weaker than others?  Perhaps as Stanford University reported in their Marshmallow Study that children who could not delay their gratification in their youth went on in life with the same trait and were less successful in life.  Some developed habits escalating into addictive behaviors.  There are treatment facilities in the Bay Area for people who cannot control their desire for food.  Preventative actions will eliminate problems in the relationships, finances and careers due to addictive behaviors (deceptive practices and reduced self esteem).   

Bay Area expert Dr. Benjamin Amen’s clinic conducts brain scans to classify people with addictive behavior and prescribe treatments to cure the cravings most people addicted to food experience.  Once the cravings are stopped abstaining from addictive behavior is impossible.  One brain type was treated with a combination of supplements: fish oil, DHEA, D-3 and chromium picolinate.

How to stop over eating

How to stop over eating.

LOL I really should not be writing a blog with that title since I have not 100% found the solution except to work at it one day at a time. I over eat. I am over weight but I am learning to love and accept myself and press onward.

I have a great God and I trust his leadership in my life.  I know If I pray and do my best he will help me.

Today I was successful and did not over eat.  I got up early prayed, read my bible and stayed busy on the computer.  When I am writing blogs I don't normally over eat.  Its only when I get in front of the TV or get in stores with binge food items.

So one way to stop over eating is to know your triggers.  What makes you over eat and get ready to fight.

Today I had a great victory and am thrilled.

I am taking life slower.  Yes, way slower. Sleeping more, doing less and focusing on ending over eating and obsessive food issues.

How to lose weight and keep it off

How to lose weight and keep it off.  Its funny I would choose this title but I have struggled with obesity my entire life.  Its a family issue of overeating and emotional consolation.  However I think I finally have found the true way to lose weight and keep it off forever and I am about to embark on that journey.  There is truly not one way for every person.  Dr. Amen in his book The Amen Solution discussed the brain scans of patients with chronic addictions to food and substances and confirms there are real issues going on in people who over eat in an addictive manner.

I have believed that I was a failed person with no self restraint because I could not control what I was eating.  People who don't have this issue think it's just in my head or a lack of will power.  That is really a mean statement because people with an addiction to food are often doing this behavior against their will because they are struggling with fear, pain, self esteem and emotional issues.

So how am I discovering the true way to lose weight and keep it off?  Resources Baby, Resources.

First I considered my spiritual practice and its tools.  I considered my family, friends and what has worked for them. Then I went on a self discovery journey to dig deep into why I self inflict torture to my soul by over eating and came up with simple self hatred and self destruction.

Our minds are out to destroy us anyway possible, its our internal enemy with mean messages we hear in our minds over and over.  "Your too fat, ugly or stupid for anyone to want you or like you.  Where in the world do we get these horrible internal messages?  We were obviously told this some time in our life from someone we believed.  Likely we felt that way because someone hurt us.  Now how do we recover?

My theory is we over eat to give ourselves comfort.  We may eat because we are bored, lonely, feeling anxiety or because it's simply what we have do with the life pattern we created. Barry Sears Ph.D. says Fat is toxic and obesity is a cancer.  This I believe because I know me being over weight is a cancer to my soul that eats away at my self esteem.  I just want to curl up and die with shame and self loathing at times.

This is not a normal way to live and so we must learn to love and accept ourselves so we can heal.  For me I believe my overeating was taught to me growing up.  When our family had an issue or fight we went out to eat. Our lives were largely focused and centered on the family meal. Where were we going and what were we eating.  If dad had been misbehaving he made it up to the family with candy, ice cream and pizza so its a live style I adopted.

I want to learn how to lose weight and keep it off forever.  I hate being fat and loath myself for these un-controllable desires. If your not a food addict I likely sound pretty pathetic but if your like me and you struggle with over eating, self esteem and misery of the soul you know just how real and hideous this disease of the mind is.  

This week I feel like I really have hit rock bottom and am ready for help.  Of course I reached for God, a girl friend and my mother. This entire shift was all because my baby sister had recommended a book "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise L. Hay.  She was given the book by a friend who cared and knew it would help me with my struggles and strongholds.

The book basically helps you leave your past behind and erase the mental thought patterns you may be repeating over and over. For me it was fear.  I grew up abused and could not get past my failures in life.  Despite a great church, wonderful co workers and family who reach out I pushed them away because of my own low self esteem. I am ready to break these patterns and free myself from the weight and the heart ache.

Food Addiction: How to stop over eating, strongholds, gluttony, how to lose weight, why some people struggle to lose weight.

Hello Family, I appreciate everyone's concern when I was ill and struggling.  I am thrilled to report today I have a new mindset.  I understand more about Food Addiction, spiritual strongholds and past belief systems that no longer serve me.  I feel free from food addiction, over eating strongholds, gluttony and actually believe again that I can lose weight.

How did this happen?  Ask God...  He knows what he is doing in my life.  Actually it was my baby sister Geenie (nick name) who suggested a book she was gifted and it had got her excited and through some issues we share as a family. It's called "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise L. Hay. 

My mom had given me the book years ago but I never read it.  You know we rarely take suggestions from our mothers, at least I don't about books or movies. LOL.  No offense Mom.  But my sister I listen to.  We are carbon copies of each other. We look, dress and act alike in many areas and she knows me very well.

Anyway the book was great.  First three pages I am balling my eyes out thanking God for allowing me to find the information to release some bad thought patterns and habits like food addiction and over eating.  The author's theory is some overweight people need protection and have fear.  That was me.  Traumatized as a child and through out my early years I was always afraid if we would have a place to live, food to eat and who next would hurt me. That is no way to live or act.  When I get afraid I eat.

I had been using the You Are a CEO and FA program to lose weight after attending some very impactful lifeskills411 meetings but after my house was foreclosed on I just freaked out and started eating like crazy in fear.  I have never been all that great at reaching out to those who love me or asking for comfort.  I grew up learning to hide what was going on and internalize my fear or anxiety.

The book gave me some very simple yet effective methods to examine myself, understand why I was doing things to myself I did not want to do and we got to the root of the issue.  Wow.  Let me add I am also pre menopausal so I am really seeking ways to deal with the symptoms and depression I had been experiencing.  The root was I believed I was only good if I did XYZ and I fought the rules due to simple rebellion because of issues with my parent.s

The diet did not go well today

I ate almost a whole box of cookies.  I have been having hot flashes all day... so I went to Trader Joe's to get the Estroven.  And there they were.  These tiny little innocent cookies... of course eating 8 was about 200 calories but the whole box.  Ikes.

Thank God I did fairly well with my meals and exercise today.

I have not been sleeping but that is a whole other issue.

I never will give up.  I will keep fighting. I see more clearly this is really lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and in a way the pride of life.  I see it want it and can't control my desires. Then I say to myself I deserve this. But I know the wages of sin is death and that sin is always deceiving you.

So I got a lesson.  Over eating makes me fat and miserable.  That is NOT a treat.

Are you trapped like a RAT in a FOOD lined cage? What are you doing to manage your WEIGHT?

I know, I know, who am I to talk about this.  I've gained and lost a 100 lbs more than once. I know how strong the addiction to food can be.  Its a strong hold of the mind.  Your trapped like a rat in a food lined cage. Its very real.  I know.  I hate over eating yet time and time again I give in and open my mouth only to feel sick later with remorse and regret. 


Over eating is a disease and if you continue on that path can lead to health problems and or death.  Being over weight is not good for your heart, joints or mind.  I know personally how shattered my self esteem gets just by looking in the mirror.  When I see a curvy chunky monkey in the mirror I get depressed and hate myself.  But then the excuses come.  I justify why I can't lose weight or control my eating.  I just need it.  I like it and the list goes on.

Sometimes we just have to stop thinking and just do what we know we should.

Today I give myself 2 thumbs up.  I got up at 7 went to the gym with my sister (from church) and we both felt so much better that we took action.

Then eating a healthy breakfast and lunch was easier.  Scheduling also helps me.  Make a routine and stick to it.  Don't go crazy with wild restrictions or programs that are not realistic.  I learned that trick from CEO and Author Michael E. Parker in the goal setting workshop with You Are a CEO.  Goals have to be realistic and getting up at 4:30 am is not.  Nor is eating just tofu and bean sprouts.  LOL

Anyway so do you feel like a trapped rat in a food lined cage? Are you stuck and can't get out?  Remember this its all in your head.  Just don't think about it.  LOL Do exactly what you need to do and don't have any conversations with the enemy.  LOL

He/She is there but just ignore it.   Oh  the picture... its Original Sin to remind us where the problem starts.

FLAB


As with any addiction you must have a plan for success.

Dr. OZ had a guest on his show that recommended the following and I try to remember this when I go to grab something to put in my mouth.

F-are you feeling frustrated-if so deal with those feelings

L- are you feeling lonely- if so engage

A- are you feeling anxious-why and address it

B- are you feeling bored-get involved with an activity

When you eat when you're not hungry, most likely one of these feelings need to be addressed, because none of these feelings will go away even after you eat.

Progress Not Perfection


Well,yesterday was a pretty darn good day.  I am watching personal development videos from You Are a CEO and the workshops on Image are really helping me see that how I look does matter to me and others.  I don't feel good about myself or how others view me when I am over weight and I feel strong enough to fight and do something about it.  I have accepted the fact that I may not always win but I will  never win if I don't at least try and put up a fight.  With any fight strategy matters.  Location and environment do impact your chances.  That is why I am committing to spending more time with people who are physically fit and who eat right.

Yesterday I had lunch with 4 friends.  I watched what everyone ate and what was on their plate.  Their is a direct correlation to what you eat and what you weigh.  Exercise also impacts your weight.  Ah the great revelation LOL.  If it were only that easy.  What helps is having principles.  That is mental rules of what I believe and want to live by.

I have decided to migrate towards vegan ism and replaced milk with coconut milk.  I am trying to eat a vegetable based diet and perhaps did get a little carried away with groceries LOL  I think 2 heads broccoli, 4 bok choi, 1 lb of bean sprouts, 2 lbs summer squash, 2 lbs green beans, 2 lbs Chinese eggplant, 1 lbs Chinese Broccoli, 1 bunch cilantro, 2 onions may be a little to much. LOL You think?

Food addiction is not just eating but over buying or over thinking about food.  When I say food addiction I am referring to the strong hold of gluttony.  Loving food to an unhealthy extent. 

I will fight and I will win.  Now off to my healthy breakfast.  This seems to be one war I win most every day.  I eat a healthy FAA based breakfast with dairy, grain, fruit and lean protein sources.

I am learning to have more faith and trust God can and will deliver us all.  Use his tools and fight.

Gluttony, the truth about over eating food and the spiritual stronghold

I hate the word gluttony, it sounds so bad but this is how the bible relates the stronghold of over eating and a love for food that exceeds what is righteous.  I am not an expert however I have struggled with this stronghold most of my life and I HATE it.  I mean I really despise being over weight and going up and down on the scale.

I have dediced to try Veganism and see if removing animal products from my life will help me with my strong hold.  I have also tried vegetarianism, fasting and fruit flushes. 

I know that I have to resist the temptation and fight.  The more I fight the more I can win.  Recently I considered what are the tools I can use to fight spiritually this stronghold?  I know reading the word, praying work but Friday I thought about having faith in overcoming this stronghold.  So I have added this tool to my belt and am surprised I am seeing a difference.

I keep meditating on the fact that I have faith and believe God can relieve me of this obession and the weakness I have in disciplining my self.  I must gain control over what I eat and do what is right. 

So today I had 1/2 a canteloupe and 2 slices of turkey bacon.  Then later a snack of 1 cup coconut milk with Chocolate Malt powder (for taste). I have mapped out a plan to reduce animal products and migrate towards a vegetable based diet untiil I can conquer this stronghold.

I will not be defeated.  I will fight.

I am thrilled with my changes


Wow I am so thrilled with the changes I am seeing in myself while using the You Are a CEO program.  I am eating a FA breakfast and larger lunch and smaller dinner.  I am not binge eating or doing any crazy stuff like I used to.  Yippee.

I don't feel sick, depressed or any of the wild feelings of being out of control anymore.  God has been so good to me.

I am stabalizing and I know its pure prayer.

Tomorrow I plan to work out, grocery shop and I am planning on going Vegan.  I really think it is better for my health and animals.

Farming is not a great industry for animals.

Well I am still fat! LOL


It's not really funny but I am still fat. 

I have a strong hold that is getting weaker and weaker.  I am so thankful for You Are a CEO and the tools God has blessed me with.  My problem is getting smaller, my success are increasing and I am finding myself positive, happy and moving forward believing I can archieve my fitness goals.

I watched the Image Workshops in You Are a CEO and it really helped me understand that it does matter what I look like.  Of course I am a "Pretty Girl", people love me and I have a great personality but lets face it the world likes thin or normal weight people.  Then don't like fat people and I am too fat.

Today I can say that I am on the road to fixing my own life using the You Are a CEO and spiritual tools that make me feel good about myself and the progress.  

I had gone to FA or Food Addicts Anonymous but it only worked when I was going to 3 meetings and doing a huge list of things.   I just live my life like that.

I loved the results but this time I am doing it slower and hoping for a lasting solution that does not make me hate myself in the process. LOL

There is a solution to being over weight, I am finding it.

Wow, I've been home sick almost a week. I have a liver disease and sometimes If I am not taking good care of myself I get sick. Its serious but I trust God and do the best I can to play the hand I was dealt.

I can see that there has been a silver lining in all this. This week God has dealt with me in so many ways. I found out some great information that encouraged me to press on and never give up. I can get a healthy body, positive mind and optimal health.

Sometime being over weight gets me down and I get depressed, don't want to go anywhere or do anything. I just hide and isolate. When my condition flares up and I don't feel well it can compound the matter. Thing can pile up and the stress of living life can become overwhelming. You know what I mean?

Money, relationships, healthy, work all become too much and increases the physical pain with emotional issues. BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION. I have a loving God who always delivers me. He is my savior. He blessed me with a loving church family and friends who really care and that is a great benefit to my life.

Anyway, today I really wanted to talk about the solutions I am finding for my weight because being over weight impacts my health and I am dealing with that right now. I have to lose weight to reduce the fat in my liver. I'd like to weigh 145 to 165 and get my body fit.

I've decided to try Pilates and a modified FA diet. I have been reading material from Dr. Amen (based in Fairfield, CA) and learning what I need to balance being satisfied and reducing my caloric intake. I need to reduce the carbs. That is always my story. I love sweets and am using Fish Oil, DHEA, D3, and Chromium Picolinate to reduce my food cravings.

I also am making sure I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. I also realized that in addition to the diet, exercise and supplements I need to fuel my mind with positive support. I use the blogs and online research to get information and encouragement to keep pressing.

The TV has lots of encouragement in reality shows where you can watch people diet and win the battle with obesity. There are also tons of videos online where you can learn how to lose weight, stop cravings and get motivated.

One new site I found is ShrinkMe. I like it because the founder is a psychologist who understands the struggle people have with denying ourselves the pleasure of food and over eating.

He asks his patients to think about what they are doing when they get ready to have a food episode. Meal planning is important and I am working very hard to exercise, diet and keep my mindset right.

My power and solution is God. I read, pray and ask his help.

Cinnamon is a small tree that grows in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, and Egypt.

It's one of the oldest known spices. To prepare it, the bark of the cinnamon tree is dried and rolled into cinnamon sticks, also called quills. Cinnamon can also be dried and ground into a powder.

The characteristic flavor and aroma of cinnamon comes from a compound in the essential oil of the bark called cinnamonaldehyde.

Although there are four main varieties of cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon are the most popular.

Ceylon cinnamon is sometimes called true cinnamon. It is more expensive and has a sweet taste. The quills are softer and can be easily ground in a coffee grinder. Ceylon cinnamon is sold in specialty stores.

Most cinnamon sold in supermarkets in North America comes from the less expensive variety, Cassia cinnamon. It has a darker color and the quills are harder. Unlike Ceylon cinnamon, it can't be easily ground into a powder using a coffee grinder.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Cassia cinnamon is used for colds, flatulence, nausea, diarrhea, and painful menstrual periods. It's also believed to improve energy, vitality, and circulation and be particularly useful for people who tend to feel hot in their upper body but have cold feet.

I use it for nausea, better breath and reduces body oder as I don't use traditional under arm deoderant due to harmful impacts of the chemicals in most products.



FACTS: OF HEALTH STUDY REDUCING BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS

Recent studies have found that cinnamon may have a beneficial effect on blood sugar.

One of the first human studies was published in 2003 in a medical journal called Diabetes Care. Sixty people with type 2 diabetes took 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon in pill form daily, an amount roughly equivalent to one quarter of a teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

After 40 days, all 3 amounts of cinnamon reduced fasting blood glucose by 18 to 29%, triglycerides by 23 to 30%, LDL cholesterol by 7 to 27%, and total cholesterol by 12 to 26%.

Preliminary lab and animal studies have found that cinnamon may have antibacterial and antifungal properties. It's active against Candida albicans, the fungus that causes yeast infections and thrush, and Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria responsible for stomach ulcers.

Cassia cinnamon, the kind of cinnamon normally found in grocery stores and in supplement form, naturally contains a compound called coumarin. Coumarin is also found in other plants such as celery, chamomile, sweet clover, and parsley.

HIGH LEVELS OF COUMARIN IN CASSIA CINNAMON CAN DAMAGE THE LIVER...

At high levels, coumarin can damage the liver. Coumarin can also have a "blood-thinning" effect, so cassia cinnamon supplements shouldn't be taken with prescription anti-clotting medication, such as Coumadin (warfarin), or by people with bleeding disorders.

Therefore, Omega-3 fatty acids may help to regulate those hormones and lessen the symptoms of these severe mental illnesses. Combined with typical drug therapy, fish oil high in Omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to help regulate the moods of those suffering from these three illnesses.

IMPORTANT- QUALITY

The supplement should list the total amount of EPA and DHA on the label. You want to get a supplement where the total of the EPA and DHA adds up to the total amount of oils in the product. If there is only 350 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids but the capsule is 1,000 mg, what kind of oil makes up the missing 650 mg? The closer to the overall capsule size, the better.

MIXED TOCOPHEROLS?

It is imperative then that manufacturers use the most effective form of vitamin E-gamma and delta-rather than the less effective (and less expensive) alpha tocopherol.

Testing your fish oil capsules is an effective measure of whether or not they rancid. Bite into the capsule. It should taste fresh and slightly fishy. If it tastes bad or has an extremely fishy taste, it is rancid. Throw the entire bottle away and do not buy that brand again

Fish oil does have a slight blood thinning effect-an effect that helps to explain why it is so beneficial for heart health, and an effect that is not necessarily bad in and of itself. This blood thinning effect can increase the risks of bleeding, easy bruising and nose bleeds though. This is especially important to consider if you are taking other blood thinning herbs or medication, because concurrent use of blood thinning medications or herbs may increase the risks of bleeding. The fact that fish oil causes blood thinning and thus increases the risk of bleeding, the use of fish oil supplements should be stopped prior to surgery and it is extremely important that you tell your doctor if you are taking fish oil supplements so your doctor can advise you as to the proper procedure that should be taken in preparation for surgery.

he FDA does not have a specific recommended dosage for fish oil. However, the FDA does recommend that an average healthy person (above the age of 5) should not take more than 3,000 mg of fish oil per day.

For example, the American Heart Association recommends a daily dosage of 2,000 - 4,000 mg for high triglycerides, and a daily dosage of 1,000 mg for coronary artery disease. Additionally, some people believe extremely high dosages are effective in treating major issues like depression (4,000 mg), and lupus and arthritis (6,000 mg)

One vegetarian alternative is to consume algae such as spirulina in combination with nuts or seeds. The spirulina assists the body in converting Omegal-3 fats from the nuts or seeds, giving the same effect as fish oil. Spirulina as the algae and flax seed oil is the most frequent combination, and this is a common vegetarian alternative to fish oil. Flax seed oil also has other health benefits in addition to acting as a replacement for fish oil when combined with algae such as spirulina. Another combination similar to spirulina and flax seed oil is an edible weed known as purslane.

Purslane

Purslane is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, and has more Omega-3 than other dark leafy greens such as kale, chard and spinach. Walnuts are an excellent choice for the nut option, as well, and in combination with the dark leafy greens mentioned above would make a great salad

How to deal with emotional eating.

The real cause of overeating is

in your mind, not your stomach.

Using food as a short term emotional fix is a habit, it's a reflex, it's something you learned to do and can learn to undo, it's built into your brain's pleasure center as the favorite short cut to feeling better and this can be changed, it's an image in your mind that eating makes you feel temporarily okay, it could be part of an old conversation with one of your parents, it's a way of feeling safe, it could be your old outdated form of rebellion and independence, it could be your protection from sexual impulses, yours and others, it's an expression of your frustration and sometimes your anger or your loneliness. It feeds your self doubt or emptiness. In short, food is no longer just food, but has become an all purpose medication.

Truth is, you have to overeat now because you don't know any other way to make yourself feel better. As you will remember after my "I'm Writing Love Letters to God" experience I went on a water fast followed by a new diet routine.  My Uncle and Aunt are vegetarian and we recently visited them.  I previously was also vegetarian and I do eat many non animal meat protein sources. Anyway based on the Zone Diet and the Amen Solution I am eating like this:

Monday:

Water fast - 1 gallon of water or 1 oz of water for 1/2 of your body weight.  200 lbs = 100 oz of water

Tuesday:

Breakfast:
1 oz oatmeal
8 oz yogurt
6 oz cantaloupe
1 oz lean chicken sausage kielbasa

Snack: 
low fat peppermint mocha latte (Maxwell International Cafe 50 calories) 1.5 grams of fat
2 mini bananas (sell these at Food Max)
       
Lunch: 
2 black bean tofu patties
8 oz kale with low fat turkey Italian sausage (1 link 160 calories)
1 small orange

 Snack:
 1 baby banana
         
Dinner:
6 oz  baked salmon
6 oz  broccoli
1 tsp sunflower seeds hulled (for healthy fat)
1 tangerine

Wednesday

Breakfast:
2 egg omelet
1 oz cheese
1 oz spinach
1/4 avocado (healthy fat)
1/4 cup salsa (heart healthy lycopene)
2 turkey bacon
1 Mandarin orange

Snack:
low fat peppermint mocha latte (Maxwell International Cafe 50 calories) 1.5 grams of fat
2 black bean tofu patties


Lunch:
8 oz cabbage with hot link bits (1/2 link about 90 calories)
6 oz cantaloupe


Snack:
1 Mandarin orange

Dinner:  (likely)
6 oz baked salmon
6 oz broccoli
1 tsp sunflower seeds hulled (for healthy fat)
1 Mandarin orange (tastes like nature's candy)

I'm Writing Love Letters To God

This is a strange post to write but even though I have gained back about 60 lbs I feel free.  I don't feel like a food addict any longer.  I see over eating as a habit.  A natural habit I developed.  Sure its a spiritual stronghold and yes I will always believe that food is an addictive substance to many people who are sensitive to flour, sugar and processed foods but somehow my Wonderful God set me free.

Yesterday, well really it started Sunday. I woke up crying "I'm writing love letters to God". I know it sounds strange but I just was flooded with feelings of love for God and saw all he has done for me flash before my eyes.  I saw the stubborn little girl who likes to have her way as someone I must overcome and God's power overcomes all things.

The next day I decided I need a water fast.  It was easy. I had made up my mind to kick myself and over eating in the butt. I am not going to be unhealthy, ugly and fat. Plus that I don't want to be a looser in my mind forever. I want to be the CEO of my life and dang it, (LOL) I will.

Today was easy again.  I knew what to eat after a water fast.  Oatmeal, cantaloupe and some low fat yogurt and a 1 oz bite of turkey sausage.  I am finding my blood type needs a small amount of protein stronger than milk products as suggested by my former trainer Kelly Bordeaux of Lady Fitness.  

For lunch I enjoyed some Black Bean tofu, kale and bananas. I drank water.

I had a snack and when the little girl asked for sweets I told her no, your just a thought, it will pass and it did.

Somehow today I know I am going to get back on track.

I am reading a great book called Toxic Fat from the author of the Zone Diet and studying the teachings of Dr. Benjamin Amen.

I am taking supplements and they have knocked the cravings out: fish oil, cinnamon, D3,  chromium picolinate, DHEA and a host of other things for menopause and... its working.

I started having my cycle again and the hot flashes are gone. Yippee I can keep some hormones longer.

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Thought for the Day -- Hazelden

Thought for the Day -- Hazelden I love the Twenty Four Hours a Day book from AA. We use it in FA for our recovery and find hope in knowing many people wonder how to face each day and live successfully. I am over weight. I don't feel good about it but I battle with over eating especially sweets. I just need something sweet. I am taking fish oil and cinnamon capsules and my cravings are just about gone but there is still a patters of habits I have developed. God's grace is sufficient for me and I trust his loving hand in my life to lead and guide me. If you have a story to share please feel free to email me or request to be an author of this blog. When we share it gives us hope we can be cured. God can win the battle with our strongholds. Just remember when we yield to anything it makes it stronger. Coming to terms with being human

Yes, I am at war with myself.
I am smart, cunning and crafty as I find ways to defeat myself and ruin my plans.

It takes wisdom and knowledge past my experiences to fight my enemy but I am determined.

Can you believe that my battle ground is my mind and actions? Its true. Most anything that troubles me enters my life through my mind and thoughts. The things I do that are destructive to my life and choices I make that hinder me from achieving my goals are all begun by how I think, what I think on and how much time I spend doing it.

Today, I woke up and got on my knees to ask God for help.
I know he heard me because after a few hours of intellectual ranging I found comfort and hope. LOL
Of course it was and is always in my mind. LOL
I felt defeated. I go to bed too late, am not working out, am over eating, over spending, unsatisfied with my spiritual life, personal relationships and blah blah blah.

Then a wise soul gave me a spiritual slap across the face and said... Yep that's you and your buddy "Satan" as he condemns your mistakes. Your guilty and that is why Christ died. I laughed.
I forgot. The dork I am. Ya, that's exactly why I need God and the tools he gives us.
Anyway, I'm up again and I hope this blog helps all us weaklings who need God to save them and change their lives. LOL
Only the potter can re shape our lives and help us fight off the devil when he plants negativity in our hearts, minds and souls.
We must cast down the negative thoughts and accusations. He / she is trying to defeat us and will do any underhanded thing he / she can to disappoint our efforts and discourage us.
I desperately want to lose weight and become stronger and more successful and I believe I can If I look for the roses along the way. The thorns come to teach me to focus on what is beautiful and keep my fingers away from what will hurt.

Consuming only water for a 24-hour period — no more than once a week — can suppress insulin secretion and reduce the desire for sugar.

text size A A A November 21, 2007 For thousands of years, beginning with philosophers like Hippocrates, Socrates and Plato, fasting was recommended for health reasons. The Bible writes that Moses and Jesus fasted for 40 days for spiritual renewal.



To understand how the body reacts to a lack of food, you could start by looking at what happens to newborns. Newborns can't sleep through the night because they need to eat every few hours. They don't produce enough glycogen, the body's form of stored sugar, to make energy.



"Glycogen is necessary for thinking; it's necessary for muscle action; it's necessary just for the cells to live in general," says Dr. Naomi Neufeld, an endocrinologist at UCLA.



Neufeld says most adults need about 2,000 calories a day. Those calories make energy, or glycogen. Neufeld says it doesn't hurt — it might even help the body — to fast or stop eating for short periods of time, say 24 hours once a week, as long as you drink water.



"You re-tune the body, suppress insulin secretion, reduce the taste for sugar, so sugar becomes something you're less fond of taking," Neufeld says.



Eventually the body burns up stored sugars, or glycogen, so less insulin is needed to help the body digest food. That gives the pancreas a rest. On juice diets recommended by some spas, you may lose weight, but your digestive system doesn't get that rest.



Mark Mattson, a scientist with the National Institute on Aging, says that when we convert food into energy, our bodies create a lot of byproducts we could do without, including free radicals.



"These free radicals will attack proteins, DNA, the nucleus of cells, the membranes of cells," Mattson says. "They can damage all those different molecules in cells."



And even if you don't fast, Mattson says that simply limiting the calories you consume may be beneficial. He points to studies where rats and mice were fed every other day. Compared with those fed normal daily diets, there was a reduction in disease among the rats that were severely restricted in their food intake. Mattson says those findings hold promise that humans could also benefit from partial fasting.



Mattson thinks partial fasting has numerous benefits, from improving glucose regulation, which can protect against diabetes, to also lowering blood pressure. Some animal studies have also shown that partial fasting has very beneficial effects on the brain, protecting against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and stroke.



Partial fasting may even extend lifespan because eating less sends a message to the cells of the body that they should conserve and use energy more efficiently.



"When they're exposed to a mild stress, [the body's cells] sort of expect that maybe this is going to happen again," Mattson says. "So maybe next time I may have to go longer without food, so I'd better be able to deal with that when it comes on."



Mattson says that process is similar to the way muscles get built up when they're stressed by exercise. Mattson adds that because complete fasting is difficult to study and there is little actual research comparing people who fast with those who don't, it's not clear whether complete fasting (water only) is also beneficial.



Proponents say small, short-term studies find that complete fasting lowers blood pressure and reduces cancer risk. But Dr. Naomi Neufeld worries that complete fasting could be harmful. After the first few days of liquid only, the body uses up all its stored glucose to make energy. And then it turns to other sources, including fat and muscle.



"The main tissue that's the target in long-term fasting is muscle, because muscle has readily available amino acids which can be converted to glucose right away," Neufeld says. "In that way, your brain is never deprived of needed glucose."



The problem, Neufeld says, is that when muscle breaks down, potentially toxic proteins are released. These proteins are partly composed of nitrogen, and too much nitrogen in the body can be toxic to the kidneys and liver. That's when starvation is officially under way.
