Dealing with Food Addiction... My Over-Eating Stronghold

This Blog was created by Julie Parker who has struggled with obesity and emotional over eating most of her life. The blog is supported by the Mind Over Matter (M.O.M. Fitness Club) initiative started by Julie Parker and 3 other women who are distributors of You Are a CEO (Tasha, Carolina, and Sheila, all with different backgrounds) in their pursuit to share experiences and inspire others to get fit and lead happier lives. Who You Can Talk To?

Julie, 46 is a recovering food addict from Silicon Valley and morbidly obese for over 20 years topping out at 345. Today she still has weight she wants to lose and areas she wants to tone and does that with the help of Tasha, Carolina and other work out and fitness sisters. She dealt with severe emotional trauma from an abusive childhood, compulsive over eating and periodic bulimia.

Tasha, 30 is disciplined, petite, and our drill sargent. Raised mainly by her single dad in diversity-rich Daly City she became quite the tom-boy loving the outdoors and nachos. She became a fitness supervisor in the Air Force while on active duty overseas.

Her solutions: Healthy eating! She loves Jenny Craig meals only because of the lemon cake, 4-day exercise, group fitness, regular activites with friends, balanced meal plans inspired by the military fitness standards and the basic four food groups.

Carolina 26, was born in the United States raised in El Salvador until her teens when she returned from Central America where she experienced stressful relationships that contributed to her being overweight. This super curvy pear is healthy but still battles social eating.

Her solutions: lifeskills 411, spirituality, her daughter, friends like Tasha, Sheila, Cynthia and Julie, Positive thinking, exercise and Jenny Craig's meals.

Sheila 24 is naturally beautiful, athletic and extremely competitive. As a student majoring in recreation leisure management and works with legal drugs as a Pharmacy Tech she loves junk food and especially Ben and Jerry's ice cream and we can't live with out her.

Her solutions: Sheila maintains her weight because diabetes runs in her family. She is very active on a local volleyball team, practicing Judo and doing aerobic exercise. Sheila is a former wrestler and balances her sweet indulgences by maintaining a healthy diet.

Food Addiction

Food Addiction is a disease of the mind, body and spirit.

It can be arrested by our actions of weighing and measuring our food and the 12 steps of recovery.

Step One: We admitted we were powerless over food that our lves had become unmanageable.

Step Two: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Step Three: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Step Four: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Step Five: Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs".

Step Six: Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Step Seven: Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Step Eight: Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

Step Nine: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Step Ten: Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Step Eleven: Sought through prayer an meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Step Twelve: having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcholics [other food addicts] and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Surrendering your will, becoming rigorously honest and brave enought to fight any addiction is courageous of any person.

Fight and Win... Live a new life in a normal sized body... end the guilt, fear and shame.

There is a better way.
